When people who care about food go shopping they want to know one thing: what’s the best product? The best coffee bean. The best tinned anchovies. The best blue cheese. Turns out, it’s almost impossible to find these things today.
That’s because the only way to sift through the universe of products out there is with the typical crowd-sourced five-star rating system that you find on Yelp or Amazon. This tells us nothing. What does 4.4 vs. 4.5 stars mean? Do you take into account the number of reviewers? And who the hell are these reviewers? Anyone you’d trust to make you a sandwich let alone recommend a can of San Marzano tomatoes? And that’s not even accounting for the bots, paid reviewers, and advertising that completely skew the results.
The system is broken.
That’s where MyTastr comes in. MyTastr is a website that offers highly-curated food product reviews and suggestions from people you can trust — some of the world’s best chefs, cookbook authors, restaurateurs, and food experts. These are our “tasters.” Discover renowned executive chef Steve Samson’s favorite chili oil. Find out Coolhaus founder Natasha Case’s go-to choices for milk and cream.
Tasters will have a bio, the opportunity to write blogs on their favorite food products, and links to their restaurants, books, or projects!
How we pick
- Named tasters only. Every pick is tied to a real chef, cookbook author or food expert — never an anonymous rating.
- Sourced, always. Each recommendation links to the public interview, panel or article it came from. We don’t invent quotes.
- Three per category. Order reflects the strength and prominence of the endorsement, not a vote count.
- Disclosure up front. When a pick is a paid partnership, an own-brand product or a personal tie, we say so on the card.
- No paid placement. Brands can’t buy a spot. If we add shopping links later, they’ll be clearly labeled.
